Connecting to a PLC

Configuring a route on the PLC

To connect to a plc you first need to configure a route on the PLC. This can be done in the Beckhoff Device Manager. In the Device Manager under TwinCAT and then under Connectivity you can manage and configure Routes. Creating a route requires the following settings:

Configure the AMS Net ID

SettingDescription
Route NameThe name of the route.
AMS Net IDThe Reniway AMS Net ID.1
Transport TypeShould be TCP_IP.
AddressThe Reniway IP Address or Host Name (Tick the correct checkbox).
Connection Timeout (ms)The timout of the connection in milliseconds.
TemporaryWhether the route should be temporary. (Probably not for our use case)

Configuring a TwinCAT ADS Connector

The TwinCAT ADS Connector has following settings:

IP AddressThe IP address of the PLC.
PLC Net IDThe AMS Net ID of the PLC.2
PortThe port used by the PLC.

Add the ADS connector
